You might remember a Christmas play that went all wrong. Maybe an actor forgot his lines, someone got stage fright or a very important prop broke? The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson is an outrageous, funny and brilliant story.
The Herdmans are the worst kids in town. They lie, steal, smoke cigarettes, swear, and hit the little kids at school. So no one is prepared when this rough family invades church and decides to take over the annual Christmas pageant by claiming all the lead roles. Ralph, Imogene, Leroy, Claude, Ollie and Gladys have never heard the Christmas story before. The play director reads the Christmas story to them from the Bible. They think the wise men are a bunch of dirty spies and Herod needs a good beating. No one thinks they can pull the pageant off. It just might be the worst one ever. Of all the Christmas books I’ve read, this intelligent book is the best. Also watch the movie by the same title.
