“Toys and games are the prelude to serious ideas.” – Charles Eames, Designer
I encourage you to go to the Grand Rapids Public Museum for the TOYS! Exhibit. The exhibit shows what new toys were invented in each year of the past few decades. In my childhood, it has been mostly electronic toys. The exhibit had scenes of rooms from each decade filled with the toys of that time. They even had former commercials playing on old TVs. In the Baby Boomer section, I learned that the Mr. Potato Head toy used to use a real potato! There were many hands-on activities such as smelling toys to figure out what they were. There was also an arcade which was really fun!
Now when I play, I will remember this exhibit and remember how important play time is.
